GMC Hummer EV SUV debuts, off-road monster 830 hp. When we first learned about the GMC Hummer EV pickup truck, we were sure an SUV version would be here one day. Indeed, this is what happened.
After launching a series of teasers, GMC officially introduced the electric SUV globally on Saturday (3/4/2021) local time.
The GMC Hummer EV 2024 SUV, as the name suggests, combines all the technology and great performance as the truck version, then wows it with some old-school Hummer H2 nostalgia.
We will answer the first question you may ask.
Yes, this SUV offers a three-engine design like the pickup model, with a cheaper two-engine version available later.
However, you won’t feel the same punch. GMC estimates this Hummer EV SUV to produce 830 horsepower (619 kilowatts).
That number is lower compared to the truck version, which delivers 1,000 horsepower (746 kW). However, torque is still clocked in at 11,500 lb-ft (15,592 Nm).
Of course, it’s torque on the wheels. While the usual measurements are made on the device.
Given that the Hummer is equipped with multiple engines rather than a single internal combustion engine, the gray area in the measurements is understandable.
As a more appropriate comparison, the Hummer EV’s rated wheel torque should equal 1,000 lb-ft (1,356 Nm) at the axle.
Those numbers put the electric Hummer on par with a heavy-duty diesel truck — impressive for any application, not to mention a luxury SUV.
Moving inside, you’ll find the same five-passenger design as the Hummer EV truck.
However, the back is definitely new. Includes a full-size spare wheel attached, plus a large cargo area.
In terms of features, you can expect the upgraded Super Cruise, the four-wheel steering system, Crabwalk Mode, Extract Mode, and Watts To Freedom’s explosive launch mode.
In a three-engine Hummer, it will allow for an acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds while roaming the streets.
While driving off-road, GMC says the Hummer SUV has the best approach and departure angle in its class. Not to mention the 35.4-foot spindle on the model that has four-wheel steering.
Buyers looking for the ultimate in luxury will love the Edition 1, which comes standard with 22-inch wheels and plenty of customization.
However, this SUV is also available in the Extreme Off-Road package, which replaces the large wheels with 18-inch wheels wrapped with aggressive 35-inch ones.
This package enhances the Hummer EV’s off-road capabilities, with virtual front and rear eLockers, a heavy-duty half-axle, and an under-body cam.
To protect the biome, there is a rock slide and a sliding board. If that wasn’t enough, GMC will offer more than 200 accessories at the official launch of the Hummer EV SUV.
Regardless of which model is chosen, GM’s 800-volt Ultium platform will be lower than the car—except for entry-level models that use the 400-volt system.
Range varies, from 250+ miles for the base base to 300+ miles for other models.
If you take the Extreme Off-Road package, the range will be reduced to just 280+ miles. However, GMC stressed that these are only preliminary estimates.
Considering that it’s been nearly two years until the Hummer SUV goes on sale, there’s plenty of room for change.
